Yoshimi Kono was born and raised in Japan. His grandfather ran a construction company and his father worked for the Ministry of Construction in Japan. Constant exposures and visits to the construction sites and his grandfather’s factory, naturally influenced him to be an architect in the early stages of his life.
He studied architecture in Tokyo and worked for an interior design firm before moving to New York and in 2000 he founded Kono Designs.
Kono has won several awards, most recently his Pasona HQ project in Tokyo has been nominated for the 2013 Architizer A+ awards in two categories.
